A brilliant new app for parents and carers to use with their children is available in Kirklees which celebrates our local facilities and natural landscape. It aligns perfectly with aspirations to encourage creativity and cultural capital with our youngest citizens. It has been designed to encourage parental engagement and early language in particular.
Kirklees 50 Things is a fun, no-cost or low-cost set of 50 ‘things’ which can be completed over time. There are activities for babies up to about age 5 but older children will enjoy these, too. Parents can read what to do, find extra resources and books linked to the activities which are in our libraries, and take photos on their phone to provide a personal record of all the fun! There is also a section helping parents and carers think about adapting activities for children with additional needs.
We are encouraging partners and services to promote this wherever they can and to be creative in linking up an activity or two with their events. We can help you with promotion material for events or launches. Please contact Jayne Clegg
Download the app: from any app store by typing ’50 things to do’ and look for the large ‘50’ icon. Choose Kirklees when prompted. (We would be grateful if you would encourage input of postcode data – it just helps us see where the app is being used and is not part of any personal data collection.)
