WOVEN is a celebration of past, present and future innovation in the textile industry. Through events and activities happening across Kirklees WOVEN aims to highlight the talented artists, crafts people, manufactures, scientists, researchers and engineers working behind the scenes to make Kirklees Textiles a global brand.
WOVEN is working with Chol Theatre, The Children’s Art School and Evoke to support young people to get involved in WOVEN this year and to help shape the festival in 2021. Young people have been asked to join Young Ambassadors Right Now (YARN), a new programme that aims empower 14-19-year-olds to grow knowledge of local craft and heritage amongst young people in Kirklees. YARN will be an ongoing group and so there is still time to get involved!
For young people WOVEN is an opportunity to find out more about career opportunities and to have a go at something new. On the 14th June the Textile Centre of Excellence and the University of Huddersfield will be host to a careers day to find out more about jobs, research, fashion and creative opportunities that may help shape your future.
For schools WOVEN has challenged children to develop a future fashion outfit that explores what future fashion is made of, looks like, feels like and what it will do! Led by The Children’s Art School this project has over 14 schools and 60 children presenting their ideas on a spectacular catwalk on the 15th June at the University.
WOVEN is not just for young people! There are over 80 events happening across the district between the 8th and 16th June for all ages so visit the WOVEN website to find something for you, your friends and family.
