About Evoke
Evoke promotes arts and creative opportunities to improve attainment, increase aspirations and provide a cultural education for children & young people aged 0-25 in Kirklees.
Did you know that within Kirklees there are over 2500 ‘creative’ companies and organisations? This is more per capita than Leeds and makes it one of the largest and most important sectors in the area. From socially-engaged community art organisations, to high-end textile producers, from graphic designers to self-employed musicians, it is a sector where creative leaders and employees innovate every day to support their clients, customers and maintain their own sustainability.
Within the sector, many individuals have an evangelical passion for what they do. This manifests itself in using their skills and talents for the benefit for society – particularly in inspiring the next generation.
Evoke was formed to harness this passion and enthusiasm and turn it into a resource that Kirklees schools, youth work professionals and children & young people could benefit from. We act as a bridge between education and the creative sector to create and facilitate activities that improve education and learning through arts and creativity.
We have seen first-hand the impact that arts and creative activities can make (and not just in arts subjects or those interested in the creative sector):
- Supporting good levels of development in early years
- Increasing attainment
- Improving attendance
- Addressing behaviour
- Enhancing student’s transferable skills
- Raising aspirations
- Boosting physical and mental health
- Generating motivation & commitment
- Building enthusiasm and ambition
- Supporting statutory regulations including Ofsted and Gatsby benchmarks
